What is Network Security?
Network security simply means the action of protecting a network. It is a strategy of an individual or a brand which is designed to prepare a system that secures all the assets inside a network such as the network traffic and the data stored and shared in the network. The unique strategy of securing a network and all of its assets involves the usage and integration of hardware as well as software components developed in the latest era. A network security strategy, which is designed in an effective way, helps in preventing different threats and cyber criminals from entering inside the network without an authorized access.
Types Of Network
There are three types of Network
- LAN (Local Area Network)
- MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)
- WAN (Wide Area Network)
LAN (Local Area Network)
- Stands for Local Area Network
- The computer is geographically close together that is same building, room or campus.
- LAN consists of just two or more computer to exchange data
- Local area network is privately owned network within a small area usually a single building or campus of up to few kilometers.
Features of LAN (Local Area Network)
- A LAN offers bandwidth of 10-100 Mbps
- LAN transmission capacity is usually greater than that of Wide Area Network typically bit rate ranges from 1 Mb/s to 20 Mb/s
- Distance ranges from 10-1km
- High data transmission rate as compared WAN and MAN.
- The diameter is not more than a few kilometers.
- It reduces the hardware and software cost because a user can share several computers peripheral devices such as HDD, modem and LAN platform software.
- It is controlled by the single organization.
MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)
MAN is the network that is larger than a LAN
- A metropolitan network is a network of computers which are spread over a metropolitan area such as within a city. It connects two or more LAN together. A single organization to share data and resource may operate MAN.
- The distance is not more than 10km
- ISP (Internet Service Provider) providing network communication within a city and the network of different branches of bank within the same city are the examples of MAN.
- The best examples of MAN is the Cable television available in many cities .
Features of MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)
- It may by owned by single or multiple organization.
